ISAC Fund, with the kind support from the Heinrich Bцll Foundation, is organizing a Roundtable Conference: “The New Turkish Foreign Policy in the Western Balkans“, to be held in Belgrade on Friday, April 8, 2011. The event is taking place under the Chatham House Rule. The Conference will gather renowned experts and academics from Turkey, the EU and the countries of the Western Balkans, to discuss Turkey’s new foreign policy and its increased activism in the Western Balkans region. The Roundtable Conference shall have a particular focus on the following topics:
- 21 Century Turkey and its Self-Perception in the Modern World;
- Understanding the Reality: The New Turkish Foreign Policy and Southeast Europe;
- The EU and the New Turkish Foreign Policy
- Turkey: outsider or internal actor in the Western Balkans region.
As an introduction to the event, the ISAC Fund has prepared a Food for Thought Paper on “Turkey’s New Approach to the Western Balkans”, offering a non-exhaustive overview of the various aspects of this new Turkish activism in the region. The paper also aims to provide a sober, facts-based assessment, which can serve as a starting point for an informed discussion on Turkey`s new role in the Western Balkans.
