The International and Security Affairs Centre (ISAC) is an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization that combines policy research with advocacy, education and leadership activities. With its research and advocacy program, ISAC covers almost all aspects of Serbia’s foreign relations, thus contributing to constant rethinking of the current foreign policy and security positions. ISAC was founded in 2006 with a clear orientation towards promoting and serving the transformation of Serbia towards EU and Euro-Atlantic integration.
What started as an organization dealing primarily with security sector reform and disseminating information on the accession process towards the EU, in the following years evolved to one of the most recognizable think tanks in Serbia. By now, ISAC has successfully conducted over 80 projects which include schools of security sector reform, courses on law on armed conflict, study trips for more than 200 high school students to the European Union, as well as international training seminars and courses for university students and young professionals in areas of security policy. ISAC has also published numerous guides, analysis, recommendations and policy studies covering a wide range of topics from Serbia’s foreign policy, regional cooperation and the accession process, to the EU’s foreign and security policy, peace support operations and external economic relations. As part of its outreach activities, ISAC has organized a large number of panels, debates and international conferences that have offered new and innovative perspectives and approaches to current events and the policy making process.
In 2014, ISAC became a member of the National Convention on the European Union, an umbrella organization of more than 700 civil society organizations which represents an effort to institutionalize monitoring and support to Serbia’s negotiations with the EU, leading the sub working groups on Chapter 30 – External Economic Relations and Chapter 31 – Common Foreign Security and Defence Policy.
At the start of 2017, with the support of the Think Tank Fund, ISAC reformed its policy products which included major remodelling in terms of research methodology, its output structure and format were established. All of ISAC’s products can be found in the Library section.
ISAC is dedicated in continuing its work of promoting European values, Serbia’s path towards the European Union as well as Euro-Atlantic cooperation and providing support to Serbian state institutions in overcoming the future challenges and potential obstacles in this domain. In times of global political uncertainty and upheaval ISAC remains committed to providing unbiased, objective and relevant information and analysis to both experts and the public at large.
