ISAC Fund marks its second year

On Friday, 1 February 2008, the ISAC Fund celebrated its second anniversary of work in contribution to Serbia’s reform process. In the past two years, the ISAC Fund succeeded in establishing itself as an expert organisation whose work significantly contributed to the progress of Serbia’s integration processes through debate, policy, training and publishing, and whose professionalism and dedication qualifies it as a reliable and desirable partner to like-minded national and international actors in its field.

During the last year, the ISAC Fund implemented several very successful projects, some of which have grown to become trademarks of the ISAC Fund, while others have expanded the scope of its expertise and capabilities.

The 9th and 10th Schools of Security Sector Reform, funded by the governments of the Kingdom of Denmark and the Kingdom of Sweden respectively, were implemented with an even greater interest from beneficiary institutions and their staffs. We, at the ISAC Fund, consider the fact of Danish government’s decision to support the School for the second time, as a great recognition of this unique project’s continued relevance and value, which will surely be continued in 2008 and in the years to come. 2007 also saw the publication of a new compendium of lectures on SSR, the Compendium of Lectures from the 9th School of Security Sector Reform. In 2008, the School of SSR project, now in its sixth year, will finally be given its long-awaited follow-up in the form of Advanced Courses in SSR, titled Scenario-Based Role-Plays.

Expanding its work in the field of publishing, begun in the previous year,, the ISAC Fund launched a new edition – the Guides edition – publishing three distinctive guides: The Guide through the European Integration Process of Serbia, The Guide through the Euro-Atlantic Partnership, and The Guide to the Partnership for Peace. The last of these was created in close cooperation with the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia and supported by the government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Gradually venturing into the field of policy work, the ISAC Fund begun to publish the ISAC Policy Perspective. In addition to this, the analytical work of ISAC Fund’s experts and members of the International Advisory Board was, published in the NATO Review, the Serbian language Euro-Atlantic Review and a number of other prominent national and international journals and periodicals.

In conformity with its mission and the aim of contributing to the European integration process of Serbia, combined with the ISAC Fund’s desire to extend the debate about the future of Serbia to other cities besides the capital, a three day Conference titled “Serbia on the Way to the EU” was organized in summer 2007 in Belgrade, Niš and Novi Sad, in cooperation with several domestic NGO’s and German foundations, and supported by the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Belgrade.

Furthermore, the ISAC Fund increased the number of international speaking engagements, sending its experts to take part in a number of prominent regional and international fora, summits, conferences, seminars and round-tables in Europe and the Black Sea region.

All the achievements of our first two years, more about which you can find on this website, would not have been possible without the sincere support and cooperation of our donors, partners and associates, who have not only shared our vision of a progressive Serbian society steadily moving ahead towards a European and Euro-Atlantic future, but who have diligently worked with us on achieving this vision. The ISAC Fund Team is grateful to all of them and looks forward to jointly making 2008 an even more successful year, truly serving the transformation of Serbia!
