„Slavic Academy of Sciences and Arts: Gay parade in Serbia insults Orthodox nations“
The pro-Russian portal Vaseljenska.net has published a letter sent by the President of the Slavic Academy of Sciences and Arts, Sergey Nikolayevich Baburin, to the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, on the occasion of EuroPride. Sergey Nikolayevich Baburin is also the president of the Russian conservative political party “Russian All-People’s Union”.
The letter states that the members of the International Slavic Academy of Science, Education and Culture are disturbed by the fact that EuroPride is planned to be held in Belgrade from September 12 to 18, 2022, which represents, as the author of this letter states: “the cynical triumph of immorality, which hurts the feelings of all normal people”.
Further, the text states that Serbia is an Orthodox country and that “it defended and passed on its Orthodox tradition through the centuries. The Serbian people were and still remain guardians of the Orthodox national culture and tradition”.
In this narrative, EuroPride is presented as an attack on religion, Christianity, family and traditional values, and Europe is advised that “Europe’s spiritual healing and its salvation will begin if Europeans return to Christian values.”
“Holding a pride parade in the capital of Serbia offends the feelings of all Slavic peoples, humiliates the dignity of the Serbian people and discredits the authority of the leadership of Serbia,” says Sergey Nikolayevich Baburin.
The letter supports the protests against EuroPride and requests the ban of that “satanic event”.
With the approach of EuroPride, the spread of anti-Western values and narratives appears in the media and various information channels. EuroPride, a pan-European international event dedicated to LGBTQ+ pride, is primarily presented as an attack on the family, children, traditional values, church, religion and as an agenda of the West, primarily the European Union, towards Serbia, where “people” oppose its holding.
