The Sixth ”Law of Armed Conflict” Course
April 19 – April 29. 2010, Belgrade

The Course on “Law of Armed Conflict”, organized by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia, supported by the Government of The Netherlands and implemented with the overall technical support by the ISAC Fund, will be held in Belgrade for the sixth time. The LOAC Course will last for ten days, April 19 – 29, and the lectures will be held at the MOD’s Centre for Peacekeeping operations. The Course is organized based on the LOAC program of the International Institute of Humanitarian Law, from San Remo.

This Course is primarily meant for personnel who work in the armed forces or in the related fields and have direct professional obligations related to the competent and effective application of the Law of Armed Conflict.
The objective of the Course is to help professionals develop their knowledge of the principles and the rules of the LOAC as well as their ability to reach practical military solutions in harmony with the general rules of the LOAC.
In general, the Course mainly covers the topics from the field of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and the general workings of the International Committee of the Red Cross, specific material from IHL, which are based around the following themes: Applicability of LOAC, Conduct of Hostilities, Non International Armed Conflict, Rules of Engagement, Belligerent Occupation, Peace Support Operations, International Criminal Court, etc.
For the first time, besides the invitations for the officers of the armed forces of the states in the region, invitations for participation in the Course were also extended to the Police and the Gendarmerie of the Republic of Serbia, as well as to Faculty of Security Studies and the Faculty of Political Science of Belgrade University.
